I tell my grandchildren all the time that the food we make together from scratch has a special ingredient, ‘love’.  They get so excited when we bake or cook, as did their mom, and me, and probably my mother, and her mother.  We started when we could “reach the counter top.”  These were the recipes my mother made every year as long as I can remember, and I’ve made with my kids and grandkids.

Rugelach

Although this is a traditional Jewish cookie, my mother made them every year at Christmas. If you tasted them you’d understand. However, she left out the apricot preserves.

Cream Cheese Turnover Cookies

Melt in your mouth delicious. These are delicate and a little more difficult to make, but definitely worth it. I buy multiple flavors of preserves, but usually have apricot and pineapple in the mix every year. This year I tried Black Current and a Cranberry Spice Jam I made. Yummy.
